Instruments Drafting Course 2

This is a full day course conducted at OPC's premises and presented by experienced drafters. Course materials are provided.

This course covers the essential requirements for drafting more complex legislative instruments. It builds on the Instruments Drafting Course 1 and is designed to equip agencies who choose to draft legislative instruments in-house with the necessary skills to ensure the instruments are effective, valid and clear. It is hands-on, with opportunities for participants to draft their own instruments. 

Completion of the following courses before attending this course is strongly recommended:

  • Legislation Process Course
  • Legislative Design Course
  • Instruments Drafting Course 1

The course costs $900 per individual (GST not applicable). Morning and afternoon tea is provided where the course is delivered in-person.

The course covers the following topics:

  • Foundational matters, including the Constitution and Acts of general application
  • Working within the enabling legislation
  • Invalid abdication of legislative authority
  • Guidance on drafting provisions
  • Services and assistance that OPC can provide

Eligibility

Please note that only staff of Australian Government agencies are eligible to attend these courses.

As places are limited, priority may be given to APS employees who are likely to be instructing OPC in the near future.
